Someplace to stash my stuff
my Chrissy present to me.....
Published on December 26, 2007 By starkers In Personal Computing
Yeah, was out earlier and noticed my fav puter store was open....huh, on Boxing Day??? Well I went in to wish Pat, the owner, a great day and a happy New Year if I didn't get to see him beforehand, etc, etc.

Well, as always, the conversation gravitated towards computers and etc... and the next thing I know I'm walking out with a new ViewSonic 19' LCD monitor for AU$250. I think Pat was just as surprised as I was... he was showing/telling me about this new Gigabyte mobo that'd go perfectly with an Intel Core Duo I've had my eye on for a while now... and the next thing he knows is that I'm handing over the cash for the monitor... no warning or indication I was even interested....

OK, so it was an impulse buy, but I'm as happy as a hog in muck with my purchase and just had to come crow about it here cos I felt like so much crap yesterday.

Oh, and before anyone says: "Why didn't you get a bigger one?"...my eyes are real close together and I wouldn't be able to see both sides of the screen...'specially when I gits meself all cross eyed on the Playboy site.

Nah, truth is, a larger one wouldn't fit in the pigeon hole on my desk, not with my speakers as well, so the 19" is perfect and just what I wanted... and my regular 19" Samsung is now hooked up to another rig I just finished assembling from mostly old parts, just got to load XP Home and Ubuntu on it and I have me a spare to play with.

Well that just about covers it for now, so see ya's 'round like a cartwheel.

Starkers...is that a mouse pad for your coffee cup???
on Jun 26, 2008
So kaltes is saying my old JAG 14 inch CRT I used back in 1994 would be better for games than my 24 inch LG that I've had for better than a year? I think not! that Viewsonic is probably a TN panel and would be very good for games.

Anyway, congrats on the new screen, Starkers. When you have the time, come clean my desk.

Yup, sure is. I'm a bit of a horder... never chuck anything out, so when the shiny smooth bit peeled off the rubber backing, it transcended from being a mouse pad to become a ring preventer for my tea/coffee cup... cos if there's one thing I can't stand, it's cup marks on furniture.

Viewsonic is probably a TN panel and would be very good for games.

I've not actually played a game on it as yet, but everything is so crisp and clear that I imagine games will display very well indeed... shall load one up shortly, now my curiosity is aroused.

Anyway, congrats on the new screen, Starkers. When you have the time, come clean my desk.

Thanks, Snidely... and I'd be only too happy to come clean your desk - in fact your whole house, for free all expenses paid trip to the U.S. and Stardock HQ.

Yup... still here... but bigger n' better than before... and it's amazing how that extra 3 inches makes such a difference.

BTW, it's good to see you back again... hope all went well with your move/settling in, etc.

I'm just wondering. When you go there with multiple monitors,is there a staple showing in between them?

Great..now everyone has screenis envy.
on Jun 27, 2008
Yup, screenis evny seems to be the illness around here.

I got caught up with last Christmas and got a 22in Samsung to go along with the 37in LCD TV that I also use as a monitor. Oops, did I say a 37in LCD TV.

Well now I'm looking to replace that with a 52in LCD TV that will also serve as the center of the home theater system. I will hook the computer to it. So take that you, you..................

Nice setup. Unlike everyone else, I gotta' say I like the cleanliness and neatness of it. Much better than a chaotic and dirty mess.

We have a 19" monitor for our four-year-old computer which I don't use anymore (1280x1024). My laptop screen is 15.4" (1680x1050) and we just built a new home media computer with a 24" monitor (1920x1200). We just keep getting more and more in resolution - I find it difficult to go to lower resolutions after using the higher ones.

Oh, and I have a plan to buy a kickass gaming computer, but I think I'll be staying at 1680x1050 for the monitor's resolution, as a 1920x1200 monitor will be at least $100 more. I'm not a fan of multiple monitors at all.

Sorry if you've been asked this before, but what are your system specs?
