Someplace to stash my stuff
my Chrissy present to me.....

Yeah, was out earlier and noticed my fav puter store was open....huh, on Boxing Day??? Well I went in to wish Pat, the owner, a great day and a happy New Year if I didn't get to see him beforehand, etc, etc.

Well, as always, the conversation gravitated towards computers and etc... and the next thing I know I'm walking out with a new ViewSonic 19' LCD monitor for AU$250. I think Pat was just as surprised as I was... he was showing/telling me about this new Gigabyte mobo that'd go perfectly with an Intel Core Duo I've had my eye on for a while now... and the next thing he knows is that I'm handing over the cash for the monitor... no warning or indication I was even interested....

OK, so it was an impulse buy, but I'm as happy as a hog in muck with my purchase and just had to come crow about it here cos I felt like so much crap yesterday.

Oh, and before anyone says: "Why didn't you get a bigger one?"...my eyes are real close together and I wouldn't be able to see both sides of the screen...'specially when I gits meself all cross eyed on the Playboy site.

Nah, truth is, a larger one wouldn't fit in the pigeon hole on my desk, not with my speakers as well, so the 19" is perfect and just what I wanted... and my regular 19" Samsung is now hooked up to another rig I just finished assembling from mostly old parts, just got to load XP Home and Ubuntu on it and I have me a spare to play with.

Well that just about covers it for now, so see ya's 'round like a cartwheel.

I cant remember the last time i polished anything, let alone a computer desk. Treeware is just too handy for covering the available space.

I have 2 30" apple HD's, it took some time to get used to that much view space, but i did upgrade from 2 19" so wasn't too bad and i've been using 2 monitors for years, you just cant beat having that much visual space! its great for watching movies while gaming

tho i did tell my girl when i got them i needed the space for work

"Can't do graphic work or code properly with out the extra space" was what i think i told her...

I have 2 30" apple HD's,

Originally, i was going to go with a 30" LCD Hi.Def TV with PC input, but that would have meant having to remodel my desk... and I just wasn't up for that. Nope, I quite like it the way it is... besides, I'm lousy at carpentry and have had enough blackened thumbnails to last me a few more years yet.

I'm baa...ack!!! With more hardy har, har than before... like 3" of hardy har, har more...

Nope, I just couldn't resist it, that 22" Viewsonic wide-screen monitor wot jumped out at me earlier today... and this time I wasn't even in the store, exactly. Yup, I was just standing on the pavement outside when it accosted me... not to mention giving a multitude of (logical & most valid) reasons why I'd be much happier with it than my 19" Viewsonic.

Yeah, well, after a moment or two of arm twisting, I succumbed to the hard-sell/spiel and handed over the spondula (cash) to secure my new desktop experience before it jumped out and persuaded somebody else to buy it.

OK, so we've all heard the "don't pull silly faces like that cos the wind 'll change and you'll get stuck like it", well I had one of those moments after installing the new monitor and changing the resolution from 1440 x 900 to 1680 x 1050. Yup, you guessed it, the wind changed... I mean there was a slight glitch and everything on my screen got distorted and stuck like it.

Sure enough, I panicked and desperately went through a range of fixes - changing the resolution back and back again; rebooting; uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and rebooting again - before realising all I had to do was change the damned wallpaper.

Oh yeah, here's a couple of pics of it... not to mention my too damned sanitary desk/work area ....

Haven't finished yet, but I had to do some remodeling and shift my speakers so it'd fit it the pigeon hole.. it'll do for now, tho.

Not to worry, it's the thought that counts and is appreciated.

Yeah, I hope you get yourself a WS monitor some day really soon as well, they're great to use and add another dimension to your desktop.

I'm fortunate that I don't have a car and all the associated costs to keep it on the road, cos that saves me a bucket load of cash... and (apart from undies) I haven't bought any new clothes in 5 - 6 years, either, so I am able to save for stuff for my PC more easily these days... which is great cos I've given up on those wicked vices that gave me much pleasure a few years back. Oh well, thanks to my PC, new monitor and the internet, I can at least still read about 'em.

Btw,I read somewhere "A clean desk is a sign of a dirty mind"

You read right... and cos I have the cleanest desk, it's fairly safe to assume I have the dirtiest mind, hehe

Guys just know that the larger the moneter the slower its responce timne is. so the game might not lag but you get visual lag from it. Also a impotyant thing to look for is the distance between the pixals in the monitor. The smaller the pixel distance the better.
on Jun 25, 2008
HEHE mine's a 24" dell moniter with up to 1900x1200 res. hehe

I've got a 22" wide and a 19" standard set up for dual screen... can't imagine working without it that way now.

I don't play games often or long enough to worry about it that much... and with my aging eyesight, I gonna get visual lag anyway, probably more-so with a small monitor that I'd need binoculars to see just 3' away. The first monitor I ever owned was a standard 15" CRT, and I could not imagine going back to those days of 640 x 480 just so's I could read the text. Nope, I'll stick with my 22" and 19" wide screens on my main rig, and standard 19" on my second rig.

24" is as big as I could go unless I modified my desk more, and I don't know that I want to be bothered with that. A while back, I was thinking about a 30" LCD TV with 5.1 Dolby surround and PC input, but it meant removing most of the hutch and I wasn't prepared to do that at the time, not for the sake of a bit more screen real estate.

I was using my 19" wide as my primary, and my 19" standard (configured independently) as my secondary for watching TV/movies, etc. Now, with the 22" WS as my primary and 19" WS as my secondary, I can watch the greatest game of all, Rugby League, in widescreen without having to leave my PC for the main TV in the loungeroom...hehe.

My 24" has a 5ms response time. And I don't play games either.

Mine just *barely* fit, with only enough room for maybe a hair to pass through between the top of the monitor and the shelf. I did end up redoing it though, so I could have more room. yay more room

Well, as long as everyone is posting pictures. 1 24", a 17", and a 19".

Yeah, sitting here and looking at it, perhaps I could bite the bullet and modify the hutch some to accommodate the 19" on the desk top as well, rather than have it off to the side on a make-shift setup. I'd lose a bit of shelf/storage space on the desk itself, but I suppose I could live with that.

Oh heck, while I'm at it, why don't I clear the deck entirely and put up the 36" CRT TV and just be done with it... 'til (in my dreams) we end up getting an 80" LCD, that is.

I had the same tradeoff, but compared to what it was before, it's a HUGE improvement.

Yup, the more I look at it/think about it, the more likely it is that I'm going to do a bit of remodeling to have both WS monitors directly in front of me. The current setup is not that convenient really, as I have to turn my head 25 - 30 degrees, and that can often be rather painful due to arthritis and spinal fusion, etc.

Orright, you've either convinced me or I talked myself into it... or both.

I have a CTX 19 inch DVI 4:3 on my win98se computer, and an acer 22 inch widescreen DVI on this computer. Both are perfect. The CTX cost $435 US plus shipping, and this one was $299 with free shipping. They suit my needs well.
