Someplace to stash my stuff
was looking at an upgrade but soon changed my mind.

I had ideas that I'd boost the graphics capability on my Threadripper rig, but when I saw that any kind of an upgrade on what I already have would cost $AU$1200 +, that was the end of that.  To get what I really wanted would have been  AU$1500 +, so I'm going have to make do with my RTX260.

Anyone else think prices are too steep?

Last one I bought was after my system got spiked....so was a chance to 'justify' going from a GTX 980 to a RTX 3070 ....that cost $1111.

That's only $250 more than the 980 was 5 years ago...though back then the 980 was pretty much top of the heap...

Yes , I agree. The price of graphics cards is way over the top.   The price of fast CPU's are also outrageous. I need to majorly upgrade my machine , but the cost is just so prohibitive at the present time.

If you think prices are ridiculous now, wait and see how prices of everything will climb due to that psychopath Putin.

You are not wrong Dr, every one of us will feel the cost of this in one way or another.

Some small IT companies started to buy up a lot of GPUs several tears ago forcing up prices all over the world. I bought the Nvidia GTX 960 many years ago when it was new and i do not think i have told the wife how much i paid for it as i could of had a new PC for the price, i am not and have never been a Gamer, but i do love X265 Encoding so a mid spec GPU serves me well in this.

For what it's worth, you can get them at retail if you are very, very patient.  I used https://www.nowinstock.net/ to score my last one.  Just say no to scalpers.
