Yup, just like it says, I wish that those flaming idiots queuing for days on end to get an iPhone 6 would be charged with loitering or something and taken away under the vagrancy act.

What's more, those bastages at Apple should have released it during Winter... so the twerps sleeping out overnight were freezing their tushes off and were more than grateful for a nice warm cell [with a toilet] to bunk down in.

I figure it would save them alot of money as well, cos vagrancy is just a misdemeanor and the fine would be a hell of alot less that a freaking iPhone 6.  Vagrancy and loitering is only gonna cost 'em a 100 bucks [and they get breakfast], as opposed to several hundred dollars, so I reckon it's a pretty good deal and they shouldn't bitch about it.  It's not like it'd go down on their record... and a warm bunk has to be better than the cold, hard pavement.  Hehe!

Anyhow, there you have it, The Pirate's way to save people from themselves.

My wife works at an electronic store. She was handling a demo Iphone 6 and it felt so flimsy to her that she didn't realise it was a live unit. She accidentally dropped it and other staff gasped at her. She was like "What? It's just a demo unit" and they respond saying "It's LIVE!" She laughed and just said 'whoops'.

Point of the story; my wife handles electronics and phones all day long, and even she thought the Iphone 6 was a flimsy toy.

I once queued up for Pink Floyd Concert tickets.....first concert sold out when I was about 3 or 4 from the front....had to wait about half an hour for the release of the second....and when I was about to grab tickets for that one...one of the staff passed across a cancellation/double book from the first...and we ended up about 2 rows from the front...with Gilmore about 15 feet away....

THAT I'd do again.....but...

Queueing up for junk made by Apple that is already obsolete [you can bet the iphone 7 is already in final throes of dev] is effing pointless.

When I was a kid there used to be phone booths everywhere. When the phone company updated them I didn't see anyone standing in line for it. I think it would have gone something like this.

"Hey everybody...new phones! Hurry...hurry."

You people need to get a life. How can you possibly become so upset because someone chooses to use some hardware that YOU don't? I use an iPhone and an iPad, and I don't appreciate being called stupid for my choice.

I'm kinda glad I don't hang around here so much any more, as many of you are quite pathetic in your vehemence.

It's a PHONE! Do you go around chastising people for their choice of a leather sofa instead of a fabric one? I bet you don't, because it doesn't matter!!

Some people like iPhones, some people dont.............. Get over it, and yourselves. *sigh.

Bryan....people don't queue up day and night to be the first person to own a leather sofa.

It's not the iPhone that is the issue....just the queuer's absurd infatuation with the need to queue-to-be-first to have one....

It's the very real indictment on the disposable society we find ourselves in....the exact same one that has seen the meaninglessly irrelevant introduction of 4k televisions....where viewable content is almost zero, 3D televisions....where the actual use never took off due to glass-wearing 'inconvenience' and now finally with curved screens...alleged to be more immersive...at a premium cost....ALL purely and simply to drive this childish need to get new shit to replace old shit that has NOT YET worn out...and is still entirely perfectly GOOD SHIT for years to come.

Consumerism is a disease.

Why would anyone queue up for a damn electronic product in the first place? Just goes to show how stupid most people are and always will be, especially if they're buying an Apple product.

It goes to show how stupid some people are.  For mine, it is totally ridiculous to wait days/weeks in line to get some fangled gadget that could be got more easily gotten later on without that 'mad-as-a-hatter' sacrifice these twits have gone to.  I wouldn't care about bragging rights to be one of the first to own a device, etc, I'd wait until all the fuss died down and get whatever I needed/wanted at a more convenient time and place.

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me one bit that the Nokia 920 had as good if not better 2 years ago.  I have an 820 and wouldn't trade it for an iPhone of any series/model that boasted this or that feature.  What I have more than suits my needs and there's no trading it unless it's a newer, updated version of a Nokia.

perfectly GOOD SHIT for years

Back in '91 I bought a 27" Sanyo TV, a CRT, not cable ready. I enjoyed this 'really big' TV for ten years. I gave it to my younger sister and last I heard it was still going strong. I have one in my apartment right now and it still works 23 years later. Bet they can't say that about these 'new' phones or anything else for that matter.

We have a life. That's why we don't line up waiting for overpriced outdated hardware just because it has out favorite brand-name on it.

If people lined up for a day or so waiting to buy the latest leather couch then I'd react in exactly the same manner.

If people want to buy apple that's their prerogative.
However I am also allowed to marvel at how stupid people can buy. Apple is inferior tech marketed well.

Plug 'em in... and they'll charge...unless you take their cards away.

I had in mind a misdemeanor charge under the vagrancy act, but if you believe something electrical would be more effective, then have at it old mate... turn up the amps and give 'em some shock therapy.

MadDeez

i'll keep my nokia 1520, thank you very much.

about the queuing and waiting in line: if they want to, what does it hurt? i can remember waiting in line for a day or two at market square arena or a karma store back in the 80's for seger, eagles, springsteen, stones, or mellencamp tickets. i was really happy when sunshine promotions started the vip club.

To wait in line for once-in-a-lifetime concert is an entirely different thing and completely understandable when one is a music fan.  I would have queued days/weeks for Floyd and/or Stones tickets had I been able to cope physically with the rigours involved.... too old and banged up for that these days, so I missed out.  However, to stand in line for days on end for something that'll be available in weeks/months/years to come, well that's fechen crazy.

Hehe... and bring that phone with you.

Hey Bryan, the post isn't about iPhones, iPads or any other consumer item.  Rather it's about the stupidity of camping out for days on end in the elements to purchase something that could be purchased instore or online sometime later without the inconvenience.

So, it's not about your device choices or anyone else's, no, not at all.  In fact, the whole thing was intended as a tongue-in-cheek bit of fun about a crazy fad that seems to be growing.

And yeah, Jafo is right... consumerism is a disease that's consuming Western society, with lots of new shit that's more about waste than sensible use of resources.  It's one thing for technology to advance for the betterment of mankind, but technology for technology's sake is more about greed, waste, keeping up with the Jonses, etc.

Childish need, LOL. Maybe you should accept people are not machines and value stuff beyond its practical meaning. If someone works from 9 to 5 all year long, perhaps he wants once in a while to indulge himself with a new phone, even if his old one is still going strong...because it would actually make him happy? Or it would make happy someone else he cares about?  Somebody else would perhaps spend the money on a nice holiday, but people have all kinds of different desires and priorities...all of which can you label as "childish needs".

The other thing, especially iPhone, is a beautiful piece of machinery, not a screw driver. It has certain aesthetical value to it and by that virtue it does concern human emotion. One would think, you of all people, as an architect, can appreciate this and understand why people may desire beauty in their lives.

i was an iphone user for years. the last one i had was a 4s. i now use what i consider to be a far superior phone, the nokia lumia 1520. i also own a surface pro 2 (or surface 2 pro, whatever it's called. i really want a surface 3 pro but can't afford one right now) and an ipad air. i don't knock people who camp out waiting for the new iphone just as i don't knock the people who wait in line for days for black friday sales. if they're willing to do that, more power to them. do i think it's rather silly? yeap, i sure do. would i do it nowadays? nope, not a chance. i might if i was in my 20s but i'm too old for that now.

<tongue in cheek>why in the world would anyone want a sofa covered in fabric? leather is the only way to go! although, a really nice dark tan cloth fabric like i have on my couch and one of my recliners would be cool.</tongue in cheek>

where's frosty?

I just waited for the FedEx guy to deliver mine.

LOL, the hatred for an electronic device.

One person actually broke down and cried when he was removed from the line. I'm glad I don't have that problem. My safe link phone is good enough. I get 250 free minutes and texts every month. These other dudes gots to pay through the nose.

yes, safelink, way to go!
